TF2 crafting metal has three familiar tiers. Scrap Metal is the smallest unit, Reclaimed Metal is crafted from Scrap, and Refined Metal is crafted from Reclaimed. Community traders often quote lower-value exchanges in refined metal because it provides a common shorthand.

Quality, paints, styles, unusual effects, killstreak tiers, stat-tracking parts, custom names and other attributes can matter when two items look similar at a glance. Read the item details rather than relying on a nickname in chat.
Different communities or marketplaces can show different reference values because supply, demand, fees, liquidity and timing vary. Treat a listing as information, not as a guaranteed sale price.
Describe the proposed exchange clearly, allow the other person time to inspect it, avoid pressure tactics and correct mistakes openly. If terms change, restate them before either side confirms.
A surprise middleman, verification request, unfamiliar login page or last-second item change is a reason to pause the trade and verify everything independently.
